How a single competition is transformed into an “island of normality”, that’s what a new film about “Razvitie” and the Scout League is investigating

The filming of the documentary dedicated to the National Volleyball Scout League, whose general sponsor was “Razvitie”, ended with an interview with the lead manager of the corporation – Alexander Alexandrov.

Made during the 2016/2017 season, it surpassed all expectations and became the largest sporting competition for children in Europe with its 72 teams – girls and boys, and with over 1100 participants and which matches were played in nine Bulgarian cities.

The director, Anton Radoslavov and the operator Bojidar Simeonov, were working on the documentary, produced by “Razvitie”. The selecting of the best of the dozens of hours of interviews, matches, stories, remains to be done as well as the assembly of the selected cuts into a complete movie.

In children's and adolescents’ sports, achievements are not the only and most important factor. Very powerfull and meaningful, and in particular cases, the main focus is the social side. The children and adolescents organized in sport are socialized more successfully and from the earliest age, they acquire the sense of personal responsibility and the gaining of trust of their peers within the team (collective).

The film's authors will also look at children's sports beyond the playgrounds and halls. The stories of the young volleyball players, their parents' attitudes towards the training and the competitions, the balance between team, family and school, will be some of those topics. What is the life of a 12-13-year-old volleyball player, what sport gives, but also what it takes.

And all this against the background of the unique race which the Volleyball Scout League has become.

It is for the Scout League as an "island of normality", Alexandrov speaks in his interview. In a society bearing its own problems and posing a serious test for the Bulgarians of today, a race for children can create an "island of normality" which, even for a few months, shelters over a thousand children, giving them emotions, trips and great experiences, the opportunity to meet with peers - first as opponents on the field, then as friends.

How a competition turns into an "island of normality" is what the film that is expected to be ready by the end of January 2018 is focusing on.
