The Literature Contest “Razvitie” is an institution and should continue to exist even if it is somehow built on.

The members of the Public Council, created by the organizers of “Razvitie” on the occasion of the 20-th anniversary of the only competition in Bulgaria for an unpublished Bulgarian novel, united around this statement.

The jubilee was marked by more than an hour of discussion (expect a full shorthand from the event) of the council at the Central Military Club in the capital city of Bulgaria, followed by a sophisticated cocktail.

The comments were on the idea of Alexander Alexandrov, the founder of the competition, to end his former existence and to reformat himself to create a new – Youth Novel Competition, as well as to help children's art with workshops for writing and painting.

Alexandrov motivated his suggestion to the council and the current jury of the contest with his disappointment with some "processes" in our literature circles that happened in the past spring and summer.

In his words, such ugly and bad assaults should not be tolerated against one or another author, which were made public through social networks and undermine the authority of writers, loved by thousands of Bulgarian readers.

The members of the council, among whom distinguished literature writers, poets and intellectuals, however, expressed the unanimous opinion that such parasitic phenomena must be resisted by the power of competitions such as “Razvitie”.

We recall that the “Razvitie” contest for an unpublished novel has existed for 20 years and has published 24 Bulgarian novels in its 9 editions. The grand prize of the competition is a statuette, 7,000 leva and the release of the winning novel. Over the years, however, the organizers have always tried to give way to texts, written by the nominees - on the proposal of the jury, thus enriching the presence of Bulgarian literature on our book market.

After the discussion, the evening at the Military Club continued with the presentation of the novels of the 9-th edition of the competition. Grand Prize winner Ina Valchanova talked about her novel “Crash Island” and read a short passage from the text.

The other two nominated novels - "Nickname teenager" by Alexander Tomov and "Anton Banev's Holy Blood" - were also presented by their authors, instead of Tomov, who could not attend because of illness, his wife talked.

Explicitly by Alexander Alexandrov and the three authors was pointed out the outstanding work of the editor of the published texts – Elka Dimitrova.

Members of the Public Council who took part in the discussion were:

Manche Peykov, Zelma Almaleh, Georgi Tsankov, Alek Popov, Prof. Ivaylo Znepolski, Prof. Valeri Stefanov, Dimitar Bochev, Petar Chouhov, Petar Denchev, Assoc. Prof. Boyko Penchev, Zahari Karabashliev, Miloslav Yosifov, Georgi Angelov, Ina Valchanova and Aleksandar Alexandrov .
