14.01.2017
Next year, I will be backing the competition “Best Young Athlete of the Year”, but let's make it even better - like the one for grownups, because the youngsters are the future and the hope.
This was stated by Alexander Alexandrov, the CEO of Corporation “Razvitie”, who awarded the prize named “Coach number 1 in Bulgaria” for a competition based on the ranking of “Viasport.bg” for best mentor of young athletes up to 19 years of age.
„Razvitie” is a sponsor of this year's edition of the ranking of the “Top 10 young athletes of Bulgaria”, organized by Viasport.bg from the group of SMedia.
Asen Pandov, designated as “Coach #1”, failed to attend the awards ceremony held in the Ring Mall in Sofia.
From the new season, the specialist works as an assistant coach of the national team of Italy in shorttreck and is currently at their Home European Championship for men and women in Turin, where the hosts perform well after local star Ariana Fontana is the leader in women's multisport.
In 2016, however, Pandov led his athlete Catherine Manoilova to 2 bronze medals at the Youth Olympics in Lillehammer. Asen sent his special message which his mother, the long-time shorttreck trainer Rumyana Pandova, read at the ceremony on his behalf and received the award from Alexander Alexandrov.
Young athlete in 2016 became swimmer Anthony Ivanov. In the past year he won a silver medal at the European Youth Championship in Hungary on a 200m butterfly swim.
His prize was given personally by retired sports minister Krasen Kralev, who paid special attention to the support and sponsorship of young athletes and thanked Alexander Alexandrov and „Razvitie” for their compliance.
The show at Ring Mall was attended by many legends of Bulgarian sport, including our Olympic swimming champion – Tanya Bogomilova, the great name of Bulgarian basketball – Georgi Glushkov, our top athlete in swimming – Peter Stoychev.
